All about Da Nang

When to visit

Da Nang’s dry season is from January to August, while the wet season stretches from September to December and comprises stormy weather typical of tropical monsoon regions such as central Vietnam. May through August is the best combination of dry and temperate weather. Da Nang’s most famous festival is undoubtedly the International Fireworks Festival, which typically takes place in June, and sees teams from countries around the world create displays according to the year’s theme.

Getting around

Like much of Vietnam, Da Nang is awash with scooters—and it’s no surprise, as they’re a fast and cost-effective way to get around the city and its mountainous surroundings. Consider renting one if you’re an experienced driver, but, if not, you can hail a scooter to ride as a passenger using the Grab app, which also offers taxis. Da Nang train station is a transport hub in central Vietnam, with trains regularly departing for Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City, and more.

Traveler tips

Even though Da Nang’s Dragon Bridge (Cau Rong) is well-known, the fact it breathes fire and water is less so. Every weekend at around 9pm, the 2,185-foot (666-meter) bridge—which boasts the title of one of Vietnam’s longest—comes to life by spewing flames and fountains from its mouth for about five minutes. One of the best places to watch the spectacle is on Tran Hung Dao street, right beneath the dragon’s head.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Da Nang known for?

How many days in Da Nang is enough?

Two or three days in Da Nang should be enough for most visitors—with one day exploring Sun World and another on a day trip to the Marble Mountains, Hoi An, or Hai Van Pass. The city is also worth checking out, with beaches, historic architecture, museums, and a picturesque riverfront.

Can you snorkel in Da Nang?

Yes, but not from the beach. To snorkel, jump on a boat to the nearby Cham Islands (also accessible from Hoi An). Part of the Cu Lao Cham Marine Park, this tropical paradise is full of protected coral reefs and sea life, making it ideal for snorkeling or diving.
