A large protected part of central Vietnam runs from the Vietnam – Cambodia border to almost the Vietnamese coastline at Bach Ma and once was the battling stage between north and south Vietnamese armies during the Vietnam War. Bach Ma National Park started as a hilltop station for holidaying settlers from France due to its cool climate and lush nature. Nowadays, this national park serves as a home for many protected plants and animals (over 1400 species). The park grounds were officially extended in 2008 and has turned into a favourable getaway from Hue, Da Nang or Hoi An when one seeks out walking trails and hiking paths and admire the jungle and wildlife from up close.

Stop At: Đỗ Quyên, Bắc Cường, Tp. Lào Cai, Lào Cai, Vietnam
After an introduction at the visitor’s centre, take an uphill scenic drive than a nice walk to the summit (1450 meters above sea level) to enjoy a stunning panoramic view over the east sea and valley and lagoon below. Get down to the cluster of an ancient French Villa where you will have a simple picnic lunch.
After lunch, start trekking down the Five Lake trails passing the medicinal plant garden, until Do Quyen Waterfall. Some parts are wet and can be slippery, so be attentive and use the supporting rope where available. Do Quyen Waterfall is an imposing 300 meters in height. If you are fit and healthy enough (689 steps), then head down to the bottom of the fall to fully enjoy its beauty.
We head back to the main lane, freshen up, and your private vehicle is waiting to take you down the winding road back to Hue. Again, make sure your camera is handy to grab the beautiful scenery from the window.
