Hoi An was Vietnam’s most active trading center over many centuries and has been largely preserved. The architecture of the city reflects the influence of Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, French, and British traders. Hoi An is also the town where French Missionary Alexandre De Rhodes introduced Catholicism to Vietnam as well as the Romanised script that has become the standard Vietnamese script. Hoi An is also an excellent base with which to explore the surrounding areas, and this trip will provide you the opportunity to join a local eco fishing tour on the Thu Bon river, and the chance to explore My Son, the former holy land of the Cham civilization that occupied central Vietnam between the 2nd and 15th centuries.

Hoi An, once a major Southeast Asian trading post in the 16th and 17th centuries, is basically a living museum that houses old-town architecture. Some notable heritage buildings include Chinese temples, a Japanese-designed bridge, pagodas, wooden shop-houses, French-colonial houses, and old canals. Although large-scale trading had long moved elsewhere, Hoi An has been successful in preserving and restoring its charming roots and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in December 1999.

Day 2: Hoi An – My Son Temple – Hoi An (SIC Tour)

Between the 4th and 13th centuries a unique culture which owed its spiritual origins to Indian Hinduism developed on the coast of contemporary Viet Nam. This is graphically illustrated by the remains of a series of impressive tower-temples located in a dramatic site that was the religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom for most of its existence.

Day 3: Hoi An – Tra Que Village – Danang departure
Stop At: Tra Que Vegetable Village, Cam Ha Commune, Hoi An 560000 Vietnam
8.00 am: Local guide will see you at your hotel with your bicycle. You will cycle to a local farm in Tra Que Village. A short stroll will take you around the vegetable garden and then you can join the farmers in preparing the land and fertilizing it with seaweed from the local lake. The following steps are raking the ground, sowing, watering, picking vegetables, and many other gardening activities. After all these activities, you will take a short rest and enjoy a foot bath before getting to preparing lunch with a local family.
Your lunch will consist of many local delicacies including “Tam Huu” spring roll, “Banh Xeo” or local pancake of people in the Vietnam middle region. You can join the cooking with the chef on these meals. After your morning excursions and your lunch, you will take a Vietnamese traditional post-prandial nap before learning how to harvest and wrap the vegetables.
Around 2.00 pm, bid farewell to your host family before riding back to Hoi An.
