Private Full-Day Tour of Monasteries St Paul and St Antonius
Ras Gharib is home to some of Egypt's oldest Christian monasteries, considered to be among the holiest places for Egyptian Orthodox Copts. These monasteries represent a rich cultural and historical heritage.
One of the most significant is the monastery dedicated to St. Anthony, the oldest Christian monastery in Egypt. Currently, it houses more than 100 monks and features an ancient Coptic church that holds the tomb of St. Anthony. Visitors can admire well-preserved medieval paintings and explore a library filled with valuable ancient manuscripts.
Just opposite lies St. Paul's Monastery, built over the cave where Saint Paul, a 4th-century Christian hermit, lived. Preferring an ascetic life in the desert over the comforts of the city, he devoted himself to worshiping God. According to legend, God sent bread to him via ravens to prevent him from starving. It is also said that lions dug his grave after his death at the age of 105, further adding to the mystique surrounding his life.

Nearby are the Scala Sancta ( Holy Stairs ) believed to be the very steps on which Chist stood trial before Pontius Pilate. St. Mary Major is one the oldest churches dedicated to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and is known for its mosaics featuring scenes from the life of Mary. It also houses the relic of Christ's manger. Last but not least, the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls is the second largest Basilica after St. Peter's Basilica. It was founded on the burial ground of St. Paul.

A church in the centre of London, and the seat of the Bishop of London. It is now a Grade I listed building, dedicated to the Apostle Paul, who is said to have preached there. The first church on the site was built in 654, and this building, St Pauls Cathedral, remained the cathedral until 1540 when it was destroyed by fire. The present building is mostly as it was in about 1677 with some Victorian remodelling.
It sits on Ludgate Hill at the highest point of the City of London, close to St Paul's Tube station. It has been described as "an epitome of the British church and British Christianity" by Piers Gaveston Dickson.
