Mokoro Camping

The tour usually starts with a 07:30hrs hotel pickup. Then followed by a 45mins to 1hr transfer to the Okavango Delta NG32 Concession. You will be allocated a guide/poler who will take you on an unforgettable journey through the channels of the Okavango. Born and raised in the Okavango Delta, our polers and guides show you their home which they are very passionate and knowledgeable about. We support the local community in the Okavango Delta. All our polers come from the mokoro village Community Trust and are allocated on a daily rotation basis by the Trust. They will take you on a journey through the delta channels. Enjoy the peace of the delta in a Mokoro, stop for a picnic lunch meal on one of the islands before your guide takes you on an nature walk where we hope to see more animals. Feel the peace and tranquility of the Okavango surrounded by hippos and serenaded by the abundant bird life, before heading back to Maun.

Exploring the waterways in a traditional dugout canoe (mokoro) is highly recommended and a truly unique experience. Your guide will already have an update of any exciting or special sightings in the area. Most guide are from the Bayei tribal people who many believe to be the first inhabitants of the Okavango Delta, “people of the Delta” so to speak. You will learn about all aspects of this magical inland oasis from the tiniest of creatures, beautiful reed frogs and big 5 mammal species along the water edge. Your guide will also interpret nature to you in a unique manner and show you traditional and medicinal uses of wild plants in the Delta.

Large spanning decks are nestled and spread out between majestic acacia tress and the unmistakable “Mogotse” bush resembling the horns of a Gemsbok are customary to the Lodge’s ambience. Unlimited access to the the Boteti River either by simply enjoying a refreshing drink and viewing the hippo, crocodiles or abundant birdlife or by a guided Mokoro (Traditional dug out canoe) or Motorboat cruise down the river. Although spread over a massive area the lodge is small and intimate allowing for a personalized experience for all guests and enhanced by skilled staff to attend to your every need. The remote location is situated away from all man made distractions allowing one to truly submerge themselves into the splendor of pristine and untouched natural surroundings.
