Two of the most important tourist centers in the city of Cusco are Maras and Moray. In these places, you can appreciate parts of our ancient culture through its different stages, including pre-Inca, Inca, colonial, and republican periods. During the tour, we will visit the Salt Mines or Salineras, which consist of approximately 2,000 small pools fed by a salty spring that flows from the mountain. We will also explore the Moray Archaeological Complex, a unique archaeological site in the region. It consists of giant natural depressions that were used by the Incas, who built agricultural terraces or platforms with irrigation channels, essentially creating a prototype of a greenhouse.

We'll get ready to our first visit of the day to Moray Terraces. Mostly consisting of several enormous terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is about 100 meters deep. but their depth and orientation with respect to wind and sun creates a temperature difference. This large temperature difference was possibly used by the Inca to study different climatic conditions on crops. Moray was perhaps an Inca agricultural experiment station, it also got a sophisticated irrigation system. Continue our day visiting Maras Salt Mines. During the pre-Incas time, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating of salty water. The highly salty water has been flowing from this nearby stream for hundreds of years. As the salt water becomes supersaturated, salt crystals begin precipitating out of the water. The farmers then scrape the salt to the side and collect it once a sizable amount has been gathered. There are more than 3,000 salt-pools.

Then, we head to the Salineras de Maras, a unique landscape of thousands of small salt pools used since pre-Inca times. Later, we explored Moray, an archaeological complex of circular terraces that are believed to have functioned as an agricultural research center to experiment with different microclimates. After a delicious lunch in Urubamba (Tunupa Restaurant), the heart of the Sacred Valley, we visited Ollantaytambo, an impressive Inca fortress, famous for its huge terraces and history as one of the last bastions of resistance. Finally, we arrive in Pisac, with its spectacular mountaintop archaeological complex, which includes temples, squares and a canal system. We finish with the return to the city of Cusco
