The journey down to the Nuns Valley (Curral da Freiras) village takes approximately 20 minutes where guests will enjoy the countryside, forest brushes mixed with populated areas with quaint houses typical of the Madeiran society. The village is very isolated and locals mainly live off what they cultivate. The local chestnuts are delicious and are used in everyday cooking.
Upon your return, stop at the stunning fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. This is were Winston Churchill spent his time painting his beautiful landscapes and were you will be able to try the famous local drink, Poncha.

Half-Day Small-Group Madeira Village Safari from Funchal
Join this half-day safari, where you will spend half your journey in an off-road vehicle to Miradouro da Boca dos Namoraods. The open-roof of the jeep will give you complete visibility of the breath-taking environment around you. Stop at Cabo Girão and Jardim da Serra for panoramic views you will not get anywhere else.
Nuns Valley Tour
This is a trip to the center of Madeira Island, where extraordinary mountains with cloud-covered ridges descend to the verdant valleys in the most spectacular way.
Our excursion begins with a visit to the Mirador do Pico dos Barcelos (from this place it is possible to contemplate a panoramic view of the bay and the city of Funchal). We then proceed to Eira do Serrado, a viewpoint located at 1094 meters above the parish of Curral das Freiras. Then we went to the small village of Curral das Freiras.
The enormous cauldron in which the Curral das Freiras is situated was formed by erosion, which is the latest theory, or, as many still believe, by volcanic activity. The village is very isolated and the inhabitants live mainly from what they cultivate. The local chestnuts are delicious and are used in daily cooking. Every year, the inhabitants celebrate the 'Chestnut Festival', for which the village is famous.
Scenic Route – Nuns Valley Tour
Enjoy a 3-hour guided tour from Funchal, exploring gorgeous scenery and historical sites. Visit Nuns Valley, stop at Pico dos Barcelos to take in the breath-taking views and venture into Eira do Serrado, where you can see the Nuns Valley below. Nuns Valley Tour – Madeira Island Excursion
On this half day tour you will see quite a bit from the Island. The mountains surrounding Nuns Valley, which is located at the central part of the Island and also the opposite scenery in the village of Câmara de Lobos, which is by the sea.

Leaving Hotel drive through Funchal to Pico dos Barcelos one of Madeiras unique viewpoints. We then make our way up to Eira do Serrado At 1094m above sea level, (if weather permits) you will be able to see the view to the Nuns Valley. Stop at the private family bakery with cake, biscuit and liquor tasting, last stop is at Monte one of Madeira´s old touristic stops with a visit to the church, and a little adventure, you can try the toboggan rides which is included in this tour for those who pay 35€,

At 355 meters above the sea level you will have the first stop, at Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint, overlooking the beautiful and panoramic Funchal town. We drive towards the center of Madeira where you will find Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley) surrounded by tremendous mountains. Curral das Freiras was previously used at the 15th century, as a refuge for the nuns of the Convent of Santa Clara. Before we reach the top mountain Pico do Arreiro, the 3rd highest peak, we will pass at Miradouro do Paredão with a spendid view to Curral das Freiras, and this area was subjectes to intensive reforestation works.
